Industry

The IMCA-CAT insertion device synchrotron beamline, designed with state-of-the-art equipment, is ideally suited for proprietary drug discovery research. Intense focused beam, robotics for sample mounting, diffraction rastering with high-speed precision sample positioning, and shutterless continuous-rotation data collection enable the beamline to meet the throughput demands of the pharmaceutical industry.

Discovery and lead optimization phases of drug development are significantly accelerated with high quality, ultra fast data acquisition. Structural studies of the most challenging complexes, including membrane proteins, small crystals, and radiation-sensitive samples, benefit from advanced beamline capabilities.

Fragment screening high-throughput demands are met with fully automated and fast processes for data acquisition. On-the-fly structural analyses are enabled by high-speed, secure, and encrypted data transfer to off-site locations for integrating with company-based pipelines. Guaranteed, frequent, and routine access for proprietary data acquisition, whether on-site, remotely, or via mail-in, smoothly integrates with pharmaceutical drug design work flows.

The IMCA-CAT research facility is aimed at accelerating pharmaceutical drug discovery programs and performs to the highest standards of reliability, efficiency, and throughput. Each year, more than 17,000 structures are solved from data collected at the IMCA-CAT beamline.

Benefits:

  • guaranteed frequent, routine, rapid, and uninterrupted access
  • 1-minute data sets
  • mail-in service, remote data collection, or on-site data collection
  • high-speed, encrypted connection for data download
  • security for confidential and proprietary samples, data collection and processing, data transfers

Applications:

  • high-throughput fragment screening
  • MAD/SAD de novo structure determination
  • membrane proteins
  • small crystals
  • radiation-sensitive samples

IMCA Membership

IMCA Logo Border

IMCA, established in 1990, is the association of pharmaceutical companies that supports the operation and development of the IMCA-CAT facility at sector 17 of the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory. IMCA contracts with Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute to manage the IMCA-CAT facility. The IMCA members are:

IMCA-CAT Subscription

The IMCA-CAT Subscription program provides pharmaceutical and biotech companies, that are not members of IMCA, the opportunity to conduct proprietary experiments at the IMCA-CAT insertion device beamline.

Subscription are annual, renewable agreements that are customizable to meet the needs of individual drug discovery program.

Automated sample mounting, diffraction rastering for high precision sample centering, and shutterless continuous-rotation data collection distinguish IMCA-CAT as an outstanding research environment for confidential and proprietary structural biology programs in the pharmaceutical industry.

Subscription Benefits:

  • advance scheduling for guaranteed, frequent, routine access
  • rapid access within one week of request for beam time
  • annual commitments of 4 hours (minimum) or greater
  • remote or on-site data collection, or mail-in service
  • security and confidentiality for proprietary samples and data
